Thankful Thursday

27 Sep

It’s Thursday already?!  With me being out of work I have lost all concept of time (yes I did wake up at 2pm today).  Granted it is very hard to get any sleep, let alone restful sleep, during these last few days of my pregnancy.  I just never imagined I would sleep so late.  The coffee is brewing, lets get to the thankfuls!

I’m so VERY thankful for my amazing team of midwives.  I have always had a fear of hospitals, so the fact that I have another option is amazing.  Not to mention I love the way they operate and how in tune they are with this pregnancy.  Being able to touch my belly and know whats going on, as opposed to sticking a machine on me that tells them everything, keeps us both much more aware of different issues (or lack of) that could be happening.  I’m really hoping to be spending several hours with them for the next few days =P FULL MOON PLEASE WORK YOUR LABOR INDUCING MAGIC!

I’m also thankful for my eccentric, hippy, nature-loving friends.  Shannon White, owner of Petals for Healing, is coming over to do a blessing on my new place.  I know that sounds a little crazy, but I say the more positive energy the better.  She actually does a lot of pretty amazing things, including making some custom blended oils.  Morning sickness, swelling, anxiety, migraines, and general discomfort are all things that have been vastly improved by oils that I purchased from Shannon.  Currently I’m having a bit of a bug problem since this house was empty for so long, tonight I’m going to try some peppermint oil on cotton balls around the house to see if that gets rid of them.  FINGERS CROSSED it works, because I’m no fan of bugs in  my house.

Coffee is done!  Now it’s time to read everyone’s thankfuls.  If you’d like to join me just write your post and link up with Mustache Mama.

Late Thankful Thursday Coffee Date with Mustache Mama

21 Sep

My Thankful Thursday is late.  But I am in the mood for writing about the things I am thankful for (though I’ll hold off on the coffee for tomorrow morning).

I am thankful that my daughter is almost ready for her grand entrance!  While I may be 37 weeks, I have been having contractions that are less than 5 minutes apart for the last three days (and they have been 2 minutes apart today).  I went in to see if I was progressing at 5 am this morning, and was VERY disappointed to find that I had not.  How could THAT BE!?!  After all of the suggested remedies didn’t work (and trust me there were many, I am going to a very crunchy birthing center) my midwife decided it was time for a chill pill, or in my case chill shot.  Which leads to my next thankful:

I’m thankful for amazing midwifes that try to help me as naturally as possible, but aren’t afraid to bring out the big guns when the situation arises.  After a shot of some sort of muscle relaxer my prodromal labor has finally ceased!  In my mind I thought, do I want to STOP contractions?  I would love to be cuddling my baby.  Then my midwife explained how my uterus was misfiring so the baby couldn’t drop properly and by “resetting” the contractions, we could potentially be speeding up her arrival.  At the very least we would be making me comfortable until she is actually ready to arrive.  Now I can finish nesting and playing with all of the baby things!  I can’t wait to read other Thankful Thursdays.  If you’d like to join simply head on over to Mustache Mama.

Me, Myself, and I Linky Party <3

18 Sep

My first Me, Myself and I Linky Party!  Click on the button at the end of this post to join me.

1. When you’re feeling down, what do you do to pick yourself up?

I knit!  You can always tell when the anxiety levels are up based on the new creations that are being made.  It helps me to analyze my situation and decide what the best choice is.  I think it is the repetitive nature of knitting that helps me.  When I need to get out of a weird mood I take on a new craft or I bake.  Both allow me to feel accomplished and I love being able to see the fruits of my labor.

2. If you had to live in a different time period which would you prefer?

I would live in the 1950s (and hoard my clothes in a secret place with a note that shows my grandchildren where to find all of the goodies).  I LOVE THE CLOTHES! My personality may have been frowned upon =P

3. What is the most creative Halloween costume you’ve ever worn?
Last year B and I were Malice and Wonderland and The Mad Hatter (and our pup was the Whitish Rabbit).  We spent at least a month perfecting these costumes.  A lot of the details were created from clay by B.

4. Five weird things about you we wouldn’t know without being told?
1.  I started going to college full time when I was 15 (and got my degree at 17 before I graduated high school)

2. I don’t watch TV, I would get way to distracted to pay attention to plots.

3.  As I sit here blogging, trying to settle some contractions, B is preparing me a steak dinner with garlic potatoes.  I love him.

4. I can’t wait until BraggAbout Creations is in a place where we can start making donations to various things we care about.  Currently I would really love to help people learn about and use cloth diapers.

5.   I balance my job (being surrounded by engineers) by being a pinup/vintage model

5. What would you tell your 16-year-old self?

Stop working so hard every once in a while and go to a party!

Thankful Thursday Coffee Date

13 Sep

Since it is raining and coffee is brewing, I think it is time I have a Thankful Thursday Coffee Date with Mustache Mama.  I have many blessings in my life, but this week they just seem to be pouring out.  Tomorrow I pick up the key to our new place.  House hunting has always been one of my least favorite activities, but being 8.5 months pregnant and not being able to find a decent spot after 3 months of searching was REALLY getting to me.  I’m glad the other places didn’t work out though, we have truly found such a great home to start our family in.  Oddly enough, I’m thankful for those weird times when I was panicking over not having a nest.  I used my creativity elsewhere and finally started BraggAbout Creations.  That and my baby has some seriously adorable things, because knitting was the only thing that was really able to keep me from crying.  And it also showed me how truly amazing my fiance is.  He handled more than his fair share of crazy-hormonal-misdirected-rage really well.  And still wrote me sweet love notes. Dare I say, He could possibly be more relieved than I am just because I am so much calmer now that we have a place that is for sure ours?  This week has included a lot of reminders that this pregnancy is indeed full term and she will probably be making an early entrance (I would have bet that yesterday was going to be the day, yet here I sit with a big belly).  I am so thankful that we will be able to bring her into a world with less toxic chemicals thanks to great businesses like Rhisponsible Living.  We used the SoapNuts yesterday for our laundry and they are FANTASTIC!  I can’t believe she was willing to allow us to try them for free, and tomorrow I will be placing my order for the big bag.  I think this is an even bigger deal to me because we are cloth diapering, and so laundry is going to be so important to us for the next year or so.

Finally, I am thankful for Little Willow Tree inspiring me to take out my sewing machine.  I ended up making some great fitted diapers for my sweet baby, as well as having an order for them on the site.  I can’t wait to share more on those.  AND I am excited for the Sew Swap that will be starting this weekend.  I love that she took the time to organize something like this, I hope to be able to do something similar in the future.

I hope everyone else is having a wonderful day and has many things to be thankful for! Now I’m going to sip my cup of coffee and read other people’s thankful posts on Mustache Mama’s page.
